Privacy at a glance
- Your data never leaves your device.
- No accounts, tracking, analytics, or ads.
- Screenshots stay in your browser's local storage.
- We never sell or share data — we never collect it.
CaptureWebPage (“the extension”, “we”, “us”) is a browser extension that lets you capture, annotate, beautify, and export screenshots of web pages. It is private by design: everything the extension does happens locally, inside your own browser. This policy explains what information the extension handles, where it stays, and the choices you have.
1Information the extension handles
The extension processes the following entirely on your device — none of it is sent to us or to anyone else:
- Screenshots & annotations — the images you capture and any markup you add. Saved locally in your browser's IndexedDB database.
- Page details — when you capture a page, the extension records that page's title, URL, and favicon to label the screenshot in your library. Saved locally alongside the screenshot.
- Preferences — your settings, such as default format, quality, capture options, and theme. Saved locally in the browser's extension storage.
There is no server, no cloud, and no account. The extension works fully offline.
2What we do not do
- We do not collect, transmit, or store your data on any server.
- We do not use analytics, tracking pixels, or telemetry of any kind.
- We do not show advertisements.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone.
- We do not require an account or any personal information to use the extension.
3Permissions and why they are needed
Browsers require extensions to declare permissions for the capabilities they use. CaptureWebPage requests only what it needs to capture and export screenshots, and uses each solely for that purpose:
- Access to the current tab & websites — to capture the page you choose to screenshot.
- Scripting — to measure and scroll the page so full-length screenshots can be stitched together.
- Tabs — to read a page's title and URL so your saved screenshots are labelled correctly.
- Storage & unlimited storage — to keep your screenshots and settings on your device.
- Downloads — to save exported images and PDFs to your computer.
- Desktop capture — for the optional “Browser Window” capture mode.
- Context menus, offscreen document, font settings — for the right-click capture menu, local image processing, and the editor's font picker.
None of these permissions are used to gather information about you or your browsing activity.
4Where your data is stored & how to remove it
All data stays in your browser's local storage, on your own device. You are always in control:
- Delete individual screenshots from the extension's library at any time.
- Clearing the extension's data, or uninstalling the extension, permanently removes everything it has stored.
We keep no copies of your data, because we never receive any.
5Third-party links
The extension includes an optional “Support the developer” link to an external page (Ko-fi). If you choose to follow it, you leave the extension and the destination site's own privacy policy applies. We do not share any information with that or any other third party.
6Children's privacy
CaptureWebPage is a general-purpose tool and is not directed to children under the age of 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children — because it does not collect personal information at all.
7Security
Because your data never leaves your device, it is not exposed to the risks of network transmission or server storage. Your screenshots are as private and secure as your own computer and browser.
8Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Effective date” shown above, and any significant changes will be reflected on this page. Continued use of the extension after an update means you accept the revised policy.
